IRPC focuses on innovations for consumers and the sustainable world, and continues to develop high value added products, responding to the circular economy.

Mr. Noppadol Pinsupa, President of IRPC Public Company Limited (IRPC) revealed the business direction to research and develop the high value added products, invest over 800 MB in IRPC Innovation Center, increase the core business efficiency, expand the business and respond to the circular economy for consumers and sustainable world. IRPC 4.0 plan still keeps on track and we aim to be a digital petrochemical leader, integrating the digital programs into the operational process throughout the organization and joining the partnership with a Chinese company to build placket.com, a plastic e commerce platform.

Mr. Pinsupa revealed about the direction and business plan. He said, “To grow the business continuously, IRPC is determined to research and develop the high value added products and services or HVA, while following the IRPC 4.0 strategic plan under the GDP plan – Growth, Digital and People. We also prepare and find mitigation plans for the volatile markets and intend to acquire more market share in the Asian markets.”

In the innovation building, there are 60 research and development projects developed, contributing to additional profit of around 940 MB. Moreover, IRPC is still looking for the new business opportunity for the advanced technology and innovations for the sustainability. This can be a mechanism to drive new S-curve industries which will grow enormously.

The achievements of all the innovation projects include PP Compound and HDPE (High Density Polyethylene) which are the specialty products. PP Compound is used to manufacture FOMM ONE’s automotive interior and exterior parts by FOMM Corporation. The corporation is a Japanese electric vehicle manufacturer. Ninety percent of the material for the electric car is IRPC’s PP Compound which is around 24.6 kilograms of total 27 kilograms. HDPE which is designed to be grey is suitable for the floating solar pontoons. It can reduce the temperature under the solar cell panels, increasing the efficiency of electricity generation. IRPC’s Floating Solar Project will be the model for the renewable energy project development in Thailand. IRPC also aims to cooperate with Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) in EGAT Floating Solar Project in accordance with 2018 Power Development Plan (PDP 2018).

To support the circular economy, IRPC also manages the production process and initiates Zero Waste Project. The waste polymer is reprocessed to manufacture the products such as luxury watch box and jewelry box. Besides, IRPC also signed the contract to purchase waste crude of 300,000 – 400,000 liters per month. This waste crude oil is actually made from the waste plastics which are processed through the Pyrolysis process. This waste crude oil shares the same property with natural crude oil and the process diminishes the plastic waste of 560 tons per month.

“IRPC’s high value added products in the market are well-received. This accomplishment drives the company to forward the research and development of more high value added products to be released to the markets. The product research and development strengthens the core business, both petroleum and petrochemical business, expands the market share, expands the business, and responds to the sustainability and circular economy. That brings about the sustainable growth.”

For the progress of IRPC 4.0 which is one area of the GDP strategy, Mr. Pinsupa said, “Now, IRPC focuses on Power of Digital to move toward the leading digital petrochemical complex. To reach the target, we started 2 initiatives. 1. Digital technologies are integrated into each operational process to enhance the efficiency throughout the organization. The integration is divided into 5 areas: 1.1 OPS 4.0 consists of 2 initiatives. ‘EKONS’assesses the real-time results on the dashboard and evaluates the KPI of each unit. The predictive maintenance program forecasts and determines when is best for the maintenance and predicts the breakdown of the critical equipment.

The program prolongs the useful life of the machines, reduces the maintenance cost and extends the plant’s operational lifetime.1.2 ISC 4.0 or supply chain system uses the digital technology to manage crude supply data and improves the delivery process. The data integration leads to an effective supply chain management. 1.3 CCM 4.0 Big data system analyzes the market demand. 1.4 PRO 4.0 plans the procurement to gain cost efficiency. 1.5 ERP 4.0 manages the data and organizational IT structure. The integration contributes to added value of over 1,500 MB or around USD 50 million. 2. The e commerce platform, plastket.com, is the joint venture between IRPC for 55% and Guangzhao Saiju Performance Polymer Ltd. For 45%. This platform is open for all brands. All SMEs plastic entrepreneurs in the country can join and trade the products safely and transparently.”

The MARS Project is considered based on the return and assessed for the Environment and Health Impact (EHIA) prudently. Its capacity includes Paraxylene of 1-1.3 million tons per year and Benzene of 300,000-500,000 tons per year. Its capex is around 40,000 MB. However, after a prudent consideration, the completion is postponed from 2023 to 2024. The postponement does not cause any effect because the Paraxylene spread is forecasted to be up in that year.

IRPC focuses on the export, following the world market trend. IRPC’s low-sulfur fuel oil of 15,000 tons were sold for the time in Thailand. We are ready for the low-sulfur fuel oil production even before the IMO’s regulation is effective on 1 January 2020. Under the IMO’s ruling, ships are required to carry fuel with a sulphur content of no more than 0.50%, showing a significant reduction from the current volume of 3.50%. IRPC is now more than ready to respond to the demand in the maritime industry as IRPC is the only refinery in Thailand which has the Residue Hydro Desulphurization Unit.

“Both the global sluggish economic situation and the extended U.S-China trade war affect the business. However, IRPC still maintains the operational excellence to beat the top quartile threshold for the petroleum and petrochemical business, develop more high value added products, gain more market share in the Asian markets and continue the IRPC 4.0 strategy to enhance the competitive ability by building a plastic e commerce platform, “plastket.com”.

With all the strategic plans to deal with the situations, the company’s liquidity is well managed. The working capital is well maintained and managed. The investment must be considered carefully and the financial stability must be focused on. IRPC has a strong financial position. As of the end of the second quarter of 2019, the company had a bank balance amounting to Baht 1,915 million and a planned committed capex of Baht 71,043 million. The liquidity ratio was 0.91 and the net debt to equity ratio was 0.63.”
